City of Belgirate

Environment, recycling and sustainability

The Municipality of Belgirate has always been committed to environmental issues, recycling, and sustainability. This commitment has led to the development of several projects over the years:

Second Life

New life for objects

SECOND LIFE - The Art of Recycling 14/07/24

The market held on the lakeside in Belgirate is dedicated to the theme of reuse, including cellar clearances, swapping, bartering, and selling items no longer in use. The market has also always hosted creative workshops using recycled materials to make necklaces, frames, lamps, baskets, and more. Participation in the workshops is free.

We are selling the world

Clean Up the World

Let's Clean Up the World 2024 Belgirate

Clean Up the World is an environmental initiative in which volunteers clean up parks, beaches, forests, and river environments, replant trees, and organize a series of awareness-raising events to inspire people to improve the natural environment they live in. The campaign's main event takes place globally every third weekend in September.

Clean Up the World was founded in 1993 and today mobilizes approximately 35 million volunteers in 120 countries each year, making Clean Up the World the largest volunteer-led environmental initiative. In Italy, the campaign has been organized by Legambiente under the name Puliamo il Mondo (Let's Clean Up the World ) since 1994.

Belgirate is participating in the initiative in collaboration with Lega Ambiente.

Project Civic Education

New shape and new life with recycling

In March 2024, the Municipality of Belgirate implemented a civic education project with 27 students from the Fontana Art High School in Arese (Design major). The project's goal is to educate younger generations by giving new form and new life to materials destined for waste. The students participated in a three-hour workshop where they discovered various materials and reuse techniques, giving free rein to their creativity.

This project will be repeated in the future.

Book Crossing

We promote the spread of culture and reading

bookcrossing Belgirate

The goal is to create a "reading community" where books can circulate freely among people, without geographical or temporal limitations, and where readers can share their opinions on the books they've read. BookCrossing promotes the spread of culture and reading, but also has a positive impact on the environment , as it contributes to the reuse of books rather than their disposal . Furthermore, it offers the opportunity to discover new books and authors, meet other people passionate about reading, and participate in a global community of readers.
